Research and Investigation into Anomalous Light Phenomena
on and over Lake Ontario, Ontario, Canada

19th May 1999

North Shore, Lake Ontario

On the evening of 19 May 1999 I was on the North Shore of Lake Ontario in Oakville and set up well before sunset. The first event of the evening was a huge pinkish-red light that manifested out over the water (see image above). This occurred as the sailing boats were coming and going during their regatta.

This light anomaly increased in size and brightness as I recorded some video using the SuperVHS camera. Eventually a large lake freighter appeared travelling west and the light seemed to dim down, then finally faded away.

After dark I recorded several objects which appeared to have the ability to make 180 degree turns in approximately 10 seconds and which displayed numerous brilliant lights. One could rationalise that these were normal aircraft but the velocity of the turns would rule out that theory. They appeared out of the darkness from my left (East) and within seconds had turned and retraced the same route back East.

Niagara District Airport (not Military) is located not far from the South shore of Lake Ontario, so there is, of course, always a remote chance some high speed jets were doing acrobatics that night.

I took these photos at the airfield in the Summer of 1998:

I was working almost free-hand trying to track these events. I had the rather heavy x5.5 magnification lens attached to the SuperVHS camera and the stability was not good despite using a sturdy tripod.
Below are some frames from SuperVHS video recorded at 9.31pm, 9.36pm, 9.42pm and 10.10pm
