Research and Investigation into Anomalous Light Phenomena
on and over Lake Ontario, Ontario, Canada
30th AUGUST 2001
Niagara-on-the-Lake
Above: frame from video taken on early hazy morning in Niagara-on-the-Lake
I set up the video camera on the South shore of Lake Ontario and was almost at the level of the lake as I stood just back from the sandy beach. Because of my low level location the horizon (where sky meets water) would be approximately three miles distant.
(Ref: T. Roy Dutton's chart to calculate horizon.)
With the heavily moisture-laden air of the early morning there was a considerable mirage effect. When the object/lights descended and seemingly created a reflection or beam on the water's surface, both object/light and reflection/beam appeared well above the horizon.
The following frames from video show four separate events where a light/lights/object descended and eventually disappeared. The latter two orb events showed as much redder in colour than the previous more amber orbs and the amber colour did not show up as clearly as was visible to the naked eye.
