Research and Investigation into Anomalous Light Phenomena
on and over Lake Ontario, Ontario, Canada

JULY 1998

Two of us went down to the North shore of Lake Ontario in Oakville on the evening of 31st July 1998. This was the same location where I had recorded the strange lights just over the lake in May 1997.

Camera/eye height above the lake surface would be about 15 feet so, according to Roy Dutton's chart for calculating the "horizon", these brilliant lights - whatever they may be - were probably about five statute miles distant. (Ref: T. Roy Dutton)

The horizon was quite hazy on that warm evening and there were no lights yet visible on the far shore. However, very soon some bright amber/red lights appeared a little further west than the lights in May 1997.

Over the next few minutes the initial lights appeared to transform into what looked like a semi-circle. I recorded the semi-circle for a few minutes, but we were interrupted by passersby who would stop and want to chat, so the camera was eventually switched off.
